How to play

Talents

Every class has a talent tree. Talents are the build choices of the later levels: bigger numbers, tweaks to moves you already have and a few rules that bend.

Points

  • You earn a talent point at level 10 and at every even level after it. A level 80 hero has earned 36.
  • Talents are passive and never teach a move. Learnsets and the move tutor own the moves.
  • Talents belong to the life, like level and gear. Death wipes them and an heir starts with none.

Branches and rows

Each class has 3 branches that reflect its role, and every branch has the same five nodes. The class pages list them as players discover them.

NodeRowRanksPoints per rankWhat it is
A131A stat or modifier that grows with each rank
B131A second modifier, or a tweak to a move
C231A tweak to a move: cost, cooldown, power or turns
D211A rule-bender, such as an effect that fires on a kill or a crit
Capstone313The capstone: one strong rule-bender
  • Row 2 opens at 4 points spent in that branch. The capstone opens at 9.
  • A branch holds 10 points before its capstone and 13 with it.
  • Some talents tweak a move. If you haven't learned that move yet, the talent does nothing until you do.

One capstone a life

Taking a capstone locks the other capstones until you retrain. A level 80 hero can spend 33 of its 36 points: one full branch and the other 2 without their capstones. The earliest capstone is 9 points in a branch plus 3 for the capstone itself, so 12 points and level 32.

Spending points

  • Solo, you can spend a point anywhere except in the middle of a fight. On a party run it waits for a camp.
  • Each Learn button adds one rank. The blue one is a suggestion: it fills the branch you have put the most points in, one node after another.
  • A talent shows on its class page once any player has learned it.

Retraining

  • The move tutor in town takes every point back. It is all or nothing, with no refund for a single node.
  • The first retrain of each life is free. After that it costs 8 gold per character level: 192 gold at level 24 and 304 at level 38.
  • When a patch changes or removes a talent you own, one retrain is free and doesn't use up the first.
  • Expeditions, camps and party runs keep the talents you set out with.
  • A fight in progress keeps the talents it started with, even if you retrain afterwards.
